Art museums light a spark of creativity for children. Children began to explore ideas beyond their everyday life. They observe diverse artistic styles, colors, forms as they spark their imagination and think of new ways to express themselves. Those few quiet moments of looking and interpreting a painting or a sculpture is golden. During this time students are learning how to practice the skill of story-telling when they explain their thoughts. They learn how to problem-solve and how to creatively think across different time periods.
Our son loves to wonder and think about why he enjoys different pieces of others. We take the time to model and teach him how to discuss everyone’s different view points. This painting by Thomas Moran sparked some interesting debate with my son. He told us the people are “either happy because their going on an adventure” or “their sad because their leaving their home.” Both ways are different perspective and art teaches you that people can see the same thing in many different ways.

Art not only enhances emotional intelligence but it supports cognitive development as well. Interacting with art can greatly improve both observation and critical thinking skills. Children learn to notice small details, identify patterns, and different artistic approaches. They enhance their cognitive abilities by analyzing details and memory retention.
Art can promote cultural awareness in the world around you. Encourage people to become life long learners.
